Terms of use
The agreement between your church and us. Last updated 8 October 2026.
The short version
This summary is not the agreement and does not change what is written below. It is here because nobody should have to read the whole thing to learn the shape of the deal.
- Your congregation’s records are yours. We hold them for you and use them for nothing else: not to train anything, not to sell to anyone.
- You can export your roster and your attendance at any time, on every plan, including the free one.
- Churches under 50 members pay nothing, and that is a plan rather than a trial.
- If a payment fails, nothing is switched off. You keep everything for 10 days, and after that you drop to the free plan, not to a locked door.
- You can leave whenever you like, and we will delete the records when you do.
- Don’t upload people’s details you have no right to hold, and don’t use a check-in list to message people who haven’t agreed to hear from you.
Who you are agreeing with
Foldmetric is owned and operated by Bashlabs Innovation. In this document “we” and “us” mean that company, and “you” means the church or organisation whose account this is, not the individual person who happened to fill in the signup form.
By creating an account, or by using Foldmetric at all, you accept these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of a church, you are confirming that you are allowed to.
What Foldmetric is
Foldmetric records who attended a service and tells you who has stopped coming. A congregation checks in from a page on your own subdomain, and administrators see the roster, the attendance history, and the list of members who have missed.
Accounts
- An administrator account is for one named person. Sharing a password around the office is how a leaver keeps access; invite people instead, which takes a moment and can be revoked. The free plan has one administrator; every paid plan has as many as you need.
- You are responsible for what is done under your administrators’ accounts, and for removing access when someone leaves your staff.
- Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see or store one, which also means we cannot recover one for you. Reset it instead.
- Administrator accounts are for adults. Foldmetric is sold to churches, not to children.
Your subdomain
Your check-in page is served from a name you choose, like grace-chapel.foldmetric.com. You get the use of that name while your account is open; you do not own it, and it goes back into the pool when the account closes.
Some names are refused. Part of that list is technical, covering names we need to serve ourselves. The rest is a security control: labels like mail, login and billing inherit the trust people place in our domain, and handing one out would be handing someone a convincing address to phish from. We can also reclaim a name that impersonates another organisation.
Your congregation’s records
They are yours. Uploading a roster gives us no ownership of it and no rights over it beyond running the service for you. We hold and process it on your instructions and for no purpose of our own: we do not sell it, do not share it for advertising, and do not use it to train models.
In data protection terms you are the controller of those records and we are your processor. That is not a formality. It decides who is responsible for what:
- You warrant that you have a lawful basis for holding the details you put into Foldmetric, and that you have told the people concerned what you hold and why. A member tapped their name on a screen in a building; they did not sign up with us.
- You answer a member who asks what is held about them, or asks for it to be corrected or erased. You can do all three yourself, immediately, inside Foldmetric.
- We keep it for as long as you do, secure it, and hand it back or delete it when you ask.
The full detail is in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. A data processing agreement for your own records is available at hello@foldmetric.com.
What you may not do
- Put personal details into Foldmetric that you have no right to hold, or that were collected for something else entirely.
- Use a check-in list to send marketing, political messaging, or fundraising to people who did not agree to receive it.
- Probe a check-in page for numbers that are not yours, or work around the limits that stop somebody doing so.
- Resell Foldmetric, or run it on behalf of churches that are not yours, without a written agreement with us. Networks and denominations are welcome and have their own plan for exactly this.
- Scrape the site, break into anything, or knowingly interfere with other churches’ use of it.
If something here is being used to harm the people in a directory, we will suspend it. We would rather ask first, and will where the situation allows.
Plans and payment
- Free is a plan, not a trial. Up to 50 members, one administrator, no card on file, indefinitely, and you still get the export.
- Core, Growth and Network are billed monthly or yearly in advance, in the currency you were quoted in. The price shown when you subscribe is what you pay; local taxes may be added where the law requires it.
- Card details never reach us. Payments are taken by our payment provider, and what comes back to us is a record that you paid. Where a bank transfer is how your church pays, we record it by hand and it buys exactly the same thing.
- Renewals continue until you cancel. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep the paid features until then.
- Outgrowing a plan moves you up a tier at the next renewal rather than cutting you off mid-month. Nobody loses a Sunday’s attendance over a roster crossing a threshold.
- Refunds. If something we sold you does not work, tell us and we will refund the period it did not work for. Beyond that we do not refund unused time on a plan you chose to leave.
- Member messaging, when it exists, is a paid capability from Core up and is charged per message at the rates shown in your dashboard before you buy. Nothing is sent, and nothing is charged, until you switch it on.
If a payment fails
Nothing is switched off on the day a card expires. For 10 days past the date you paid up to, every paid feature keeps working while you sort it out. After that your account falls back to the free plan, not to a locked door.
You keep your roster, your attendance history, your export and your check-in page, and paying restores the tier you were on. We hold a congregation’s contact details and the record of who was in church; withholding those over an unpaid invoice would make this product a hostage-taker. The check-in page in particular belongs to the congregation rather than to the payer: a member tapping their name on a Sunday has no idea a card expired.
Availability, and changes to the service
We aim for Foldmetric to be up when your congregation is in the building, and we do not promise a percentage. There is no service level agreement on any plan today, and pretending otherwise would be a number invented for a page rather than one we measure.
The check-in page is built to be the resilient part: small, fast, and dependent on as little as possible, because it is the one thing that has to work at ten on a Sunday morning.
We will add and change features. If we remove something you rely on, or change it in a way that materially reduces what you are paying for, we will email account administrators first and you can cancel for a pro-rata refund of the rest of the period.
Ending it
- You can leave at any time, without asking us and without a retention call.
- Export first. The export is available on every plan and we recommend taking one before you close the account, because closing it deletes the records.
- We may suspend or close an account for non-payment after telling you, or immediately where it is being used to break the law or to harm the people in its directory.
- After closure, your church’s records are deleted within 30 days, except invoices, which we are required to keep for tax purposes.
Our liability
We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. Nothing below changes that.
Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows: Foldmetric is provided as it is; we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost income or lost donations, or for loss of data where you had an export available and did not take one. Our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period, which on the free plan is nothing.
You are responsible for what you and your administrators put into Foldmetric, and for how your church uses what it tells you.
Changes to these terms
We will post any change on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects your rights, we will email account administrators before it takes effect, and continuing to use Foldmetric after that date is acceptance of it. If you would rather not accept it, cancel, and if you are mid-period we will refund the rest of it.
